This contoured mask is made to be painted on - ready for your creativity. Made with three layers of fabric for additional protection and ties that can be tied around the head or made into ear loops. They feature a nose bridge, for a snug fit and help reduce the fog in glasses. These masks provide great face coverage.

Melanie Hamilton designed and crafted these masks with Muslin cotton. When the cotton is ironed, it is a material that is similar to paper, which can make for a creative activity of drawing on your own mask with a sharpie, fabric paint, or crayon.

They are machine washable but it is recommended that you hand wash and hang dry after each use. WASH MASKS PRIOR TO USE & DO NOT PUT INTO THE MICROWAVE.

Face mask covers are reusable and washable. Thank you for supporting local creatives!

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Melanie Hamilton ( @withonethread on Instagram and elsewhere online) has been sewing since the last century.  Much of her work can be put into a pocket and carried around since she prefers sewing by hand than sewing by machine.  That doesn't mean she will be satisfied with the five she has, though...Currently, she is gathering her interests and slathering over fabrics to work with the Sacramento Costumers while also figuring out which puppet and puppet theater design to start next. She is also pouring her free time into developing a surface pattern design practice and invites everyone to Get Out your Sharpies! and draw on your clothes!!

WHAT IS THE ATRIUM?
This shopping experience is provided by the nonprofit The Atrium -a Creative Innovation Center for Sustainability. Seeking to build a kind, creative and sustainable future for all.  Creatives on this platform are using the funds raised from these masks to buy supplies to make free masks for those on the front lines and those in need.

Up Kindness, Inc is the 501c3 nonprofit legal name that houses the Atrium.

WEARING A CLOTH MASK
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released updated guidelines on April 3, advising Americans to wear cloth face coverings when out in the community. The guidelines target areas with significant community spread and where social distancing is difficult (like a grocery store). The goal is to minimize the spread from asymptomatic people (who have the COVID-19 illness but show no symptoms) and presymptomatic people (who are infected but aren’t showing symptoms yet).

  1. Use a fabric mask for no more than four hours at a time, then wash in hot water and dry thoroughly before using it again.
  2. Put the mask on (don) after washing hands for 20 seconds with soap and water.
  3. Wash hands again after removing (doffing) the mask. Do not touch the outside front part of the mask as the area is likely to be contaminated.
  4. You must still practice social distancing and handwashing if you wear a mask. Masks are not absolutely effective and do not allow you to be less vigilant about staying safe!

Cloth masks are not medical-grade N95 respirators. Medical experts believe they may help to prevent an asymptomatic carrier from unknowingly spreading the virus to others. (Sacramento Bee April 2020
