This is a fabric pleated mask with two layers of fabric and a pocket insert for filters (filters not included).  It has elastic ties to fit around the ears. This is the style most requested by institutions because it has a pocket for interchangeable filters. These are breathable, re-usable, and machine washable.  Adding an additional filter into the mask increases the mask's protection.

Please wash the masks prior to use. Proudly made in Sacramento, California. The two-layered cotton fabric has been washed twice in hot water before cutting. Thank you for supporting local creatives!

ABOUT THE CREATIVE

Katie-Mae has been sewing since she was 7 years old, and made her first quilt by the age of 8. Quilting is a part of her family legacy, and many of her creative prints used for her masks are from quilting. After working professionally with textiles and sewing, she discovered a new passion for weaving and re-purposing fabrics to create new goods, such as rugs and place mats. Katie-Mae cares deeply about serving the community and is using this time to contribute masks, food and supplies to those in need, including the homeless population and Navajo Nation.

WHAT IS THE ATRIUM?
This shopping experience is provided by the nonprofit The Atrium -a Creative Innovation Center for Sustainability. Seeking to build a kind, creative and sustainable future for all.  Creatives on this platform are using the funds raised from these masks to buy supplies to make free masks for those on the front lines and those in need.

WEARING A CLOTH MASK
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released updated guidelines on April 3, advising Americans to wear cloth face coverings when out in the community. The guidelines target areas with significant community spread and where social distancing is difficult (like a grocery store). The goal is to minimize the spread from asymptomatic people (who have the COVID-19 illness but show no symptoms) and pre-symptomatic people (who are infected but aren’t showing symptoms yet).

  1. Use a fabric mask for no more than four hours at a time, then wash in hot water and dry thoroughly before using it again.
  2. Put the mask on (don) after washing hands for 20 seconds with soap and water.
  3. Wash hands again after removing (doffing) the mask. Do not touch the outside front part of the mask as the area is likely to be contaminated.
  4. You must still practice social distancing and hand washing if you wear a mask. Masks are not absolutely effective and do not allow you to be less vigilant about staying safe!
